Welcome to Agrochic!

I’m Perla Sofía Curbelo-Santiago, founder of this dynamic gardening lifestyle platform created in 2009, where we celebrate wellness, gardening, and the power of nature to uplift our lives.

I want to show how plants can transform our spaces and well-being, especially through my signature #GardenBreak workshops, designed for business owners and leaders seeking to foster a healthier, more inspired work environment.

My Mission?

From a young age, I was captivated by the magic of nature. Growing up in Puerto Rico, I spent hours in my parents’ backyard, and neighborhood, collecting flowers and transforming rooms with their beauty. It didn’t take long to realize that nature greatly impacts people’s moods—a concept that would later fuel my passion for horticultural therapy.

Today, I help teams and organizations embrace nature as a tool for wellness through my engaging Garden Break experiences. Whether it’s a team-building event or a one-hour hands-on terrarium workshop, I design interactive sessions that blend relaxation and creativity. These experiences aren’t just about plants; they’re about taking a moment to breathe, reset, and re-energize—right where you work.

With a background in psychology and communication, and over two decades of professional communication experience, I’ve spoken to audiences worldwide (thank you Zoom!), always sharing my love for gardening as a pathway to wellness.

I hold a certification in Horticultural Therapy from the Chicago Botanic Garden, and my passion for connecting with people extends across various media—from radio and television to print and digital platforms. I am also the author of ¡Verdura! Living a Garden Life (2024), my first book was published in Spanish and English.

As a speaker and educator, my approach is rooted in creativity and intentionality, fostering inclusive environments where everyone—from corporate teams to garden lovers—can tap into the transformative power of plants.

I’m a proud member of Garden Communicators International and the American Horticultural Therapy Association. In 2021, I was honored with the American Horticultural Society‘s B.Y. Morrison Communications Award for my contributions to advancing the public interest in horticulture. Since 2022, I have been part of KidsGardening‘s board of directors.

Beyond my work, you’ll find me enjoying botanical gardens, binge-watching Netflix, or baking during my favorite season—fall. And yes, I also speak fluent Spanish, English, and Italian!

If you’re ready to see how nature can elevate your team’s well-being, let’s connect. I’d love to work with you on crafting a #GardenBreak experience that inspires and rejuvenates.
